Organizational Setting

The Business Solutions Section is part of the Division of Information Technology and provides information systems development and support services to Agency programme areas and to the Agency as a whole.

Assignment

Under the supervision of the Section Head, the incumbent will provide advice and support for computerized solutions aimed at improving business processes and systems to meet organizational needs and also apply technical knowledge to create effective information systems. The incumbent will, in particular:
  • Assume leadership of software projects;
  • Carry out requirements analysis and the design of software systems;
  • Construct software to meet designed solutions, using modern software tools;
  • Implement software systems, including acceptance testing, user training and the preparation of documentation;
  • Provide software maintenance and technical support for existing software systems.
NOTE: This is not an established Agency post. It is a fixed term temporary assistance appointment subject to the availability of funds. The initial appointment will be for one year. Depending on demand for services and the availability of funds, the appointment may be renewed on an annual basis up to a maximum of 5 years.

Education and Experience

  • University degree in software engineering or a related field (such as information management, electronic engineering, or computer science).
  • Six years' relevant experience in software development.
  • Software project management experience.
  • Experience in the use of established formal methods and a disciplined approach to software engineering.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Thorough understanding of software engineering processes and the software engineering life cycle.
  • Knowledge of various methods and techniques for requirements analysis and system design.
  • Thorough knowledge of relational database management software (e.g. SQL Server) and SQL; knowledge of Windows 2000/Unix client/server environments.
  • Thorough knowledge of Visual Basic, ASP and .NET . Knowledge of one or more of C/C++, Perl, Java and XML.
  • Demonstrated software project management abilities, including project planning and estimating, work assignment and supervision, and progress review and reporting.
  • Knowledge of a project scheduling tool, e.g. MS Project.
  • Strong customer/user orientation and ability to communicate easily and well with both technical and non-technical staff at all levels.
  • Ability to work effectively in different project teams.
  • Fluency in written and oral English essential. Knowledge of other official IAEA languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) desirable.

Remuneration

The Agency offers an attractive remuneration package including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at US $49 149 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance), a variable post adjustment which currently amounts to US $21 036*, dependency benefits, rental subsidy, education grant, relocation and repatriation expenses; 6 weeks' annual vacation, home leave, pension plan and health insurance.
