Organizational Setting

The IAEA's information and communication technology (ICT) infrastructure comprises state-of-the art hardware and software platforms in a partially decentralized environment.

The Division of Information Technology provides support to the IAEA in the field of ICT, including information systems for technical programmes and management. It is responsible for planning, developing and implementing an ICT strategy, for setting and enforcing common ICT standards throughout the Secretariat and for managing central ICT services. The Division has implemented an IT service management model based on ITIL (IT Infrastructure Library) and PRINCE2 best practices.

The IT Customer Services Section is responsible for setting standards, for providing first- and second-level support for the IAEA's desktop computing environment and switchboard services, and for developing IAEA staff's computing skills.

Main purpose

Reporting to the Section Head, Customer Services Section, the IT Training Officer develops and ensures efficient delivery of the IAEA's IT training programme, covering standard desktop applications and specialized business applications.

Role

The IT Training Officer acts in several roles: (1) trainer, delivering IAEA-specific courses; (2) analyst, conducting IT training needs assessments and responding to ad hoc training requests; (3) developer of course material, including guides, presentations and hands-on exercises; (4) supplier relationship manager for outsourced training delivery contracts.

Partnerships

The IT Training Officer liaises with users and suppliers to ensure timely IT training delivery.

Furthermore, he/she works closely with other Departments and within the Division of Information Technology for the development and delivery of IAEA-specific IT training courses.

Functions / Key Results Expected

  • Develop course material for the standard IT training programme and specialized programmes.
  • Deliver training on the IAEA's standard desktop applications, such as the Microsoft Office Suite and other specialized business applications.
  • Conduct IT training needs assessments and develop plans for addressing identified needs.
  • Contract management for subcontracted training delivery, including bid evaluation; contract negotiation, agreeing deliverables and monitoring performance.
  • Project management for IT training course development and delivery execution.
  • Provide leadership by translating training technology trends into cost-effective training delivery solutions.
  • Coordinate the day-to-day performance of the IT training service, including administrative procedures and management reporting.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated knowledge and hands-on experience of the IAEA's standard desktop applications, and specifically Microsoft Office Suite products.
  • Good planning and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of ITIL processes and the PRINCE2 project management methodology desired.
  • Ability to manage subcontractors' performance a strong asset.
  • Excellent presentation skills.
  • Ability to produce documents at a publishable standard.
  • Good interpersonal skills to deal with customers, colleagues and other technical staff in a courteous and friendly manner and to work well in a team.
  • Ability to work in a multicultural environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity.

Education, Experience and Language Skills

  • University degree in computer science, information management, business management or another relevant area.
  • Minimum 5 years' relevant experience in delivering IT training courses at an intermediate to advanced level, and in developing associated course material.
  • Vendor management experience highly desirable.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English.

Remuneration

The Agency offers an attractive remuneration package including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at US $52 408 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance), a variable post adjustment which currently amounts to US $40 354*, dependency benefits, rental subsidy, education grant, relocation and repatriation expenses; 6 weeks' annual vacation, home leave, pension plan and health insurance.
