Organizational Setting

The Division of General Services is one of the six Divisions in the Department of Management. It provides service functions through the Director's Office and five Sections: Facilities Management, Seibersdorf Facilities Management, Archives and Records Management, Transport and General Support and Commissary.

The Commissary is a tax and duty-free store. It was established as a self-sustaining and non-profit making operation in order to facilitate the purchase of limited quantities of consumer goods by the diplomats of Permanent Missions of Member States accredited to the UN organizations, staff members of the UN organizations based at the VIC as well as of other authorized organizations.

Under the overall direction of the Director, Division of General Services and the direct management of the Head, Commissary Management Section, the Commissary consists of three Units: Procurement, Sales and Warehouse, and Invoice Control. The Sales and Warehouse Unit is divided into three major Groups: the Main Sales Group, the Cosmetics and Boutique Group and the Warehouse Group. The Warehouse Group is responsible for the receipt and storage of the Commissary's merchandise for resale.

Working in a team, the Warehouse Worker primarily works in the Warehouse unloading merchandise, transferring it to the correct storage position in the Warehouse and eventually to the Salesroom. Work may be assigned by the Warehouse Supervisor or the Head, Sales and Warehouse Unit. The customer-oriented environment demands a willingness to work shift and, sometimes at short notice, long hours.

Main Purpose

Under the day-to-day supervision of the Warehouse Supervisor and/or the Assistant Warehouse Supervisor and under the general supervision of the Head, Sales and Warehouse Unit, to perform manual work in the Warehouse including unloading trucks and trailers, sorting and checking pallets, crates and boxes, putting the goods on the Warehouse shelves for storage and transferring them to the Salesroom upon request. He/she is expected to perform his/her routine duties independently.

Working Relationships

The Warehouse Worker interacts with Commissary customers of all levels, freight forwarder personnel and exchanges work-related information with Commissary staff.

Functions / Key Results Expected

  • Receive, check and take over all incoming deliveries by unloading trucks and trailers using motorised forklifts. Dismantle the sealed pallets, sort and count the boxes, check the box contents and expiry dates, identify the goods and check these details against delivery documents and/or invoices and report any discrepancies.
  • Arrange for the effective and appropriate handling and storage of goods in the warehouse halls, while observing the prevailing safety regulations and adhering to the first-in-first-out principle. Assist in the established book-stock adjustment procedures and take part in the yearly inventory including data input.
  • Prepare and transfer the merchandise from the warehouse shelves to the salesroom and the bulk-sale outlet based on the stock vouchers and urgent requisitions received from the salesroom. This activity requires strict adherence to the first-in-first-out principle.
  • If assigned, take part in the Commissary's on-call duty scheme established to cover cases of emergency outside the Commissary opening hours including weekends.
  • If assigned, take over duties in the Salesroom area.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Basic IT skills (email, Internet).
  • Good health, physical fitness and strength to carry out strenuous unloading, unpacking and shelving work and possibly work in the deep freeze / chilled facilities and the Bulk Sale Outlet.
  • Ability to carry out routine duties independently with self-initiative and perform assignments with accuracy.
  • Strong customer orientation with the ability to deal with customers and staff at all levels in a professional manner.

Education, Experience and Language Skills

  • Completed secondary education.
  • Minimum of one year of relevant working experience including warehousing and handling of consumer goods.
  • Forklift driving licence.
  • English Language Test (Level 2) to IAEA standard.
  • Good knowledge of written and spoken English. Basic knowledge of German desirable. Knowledge of another official IAEA language (i.e. Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) an advantage.

Remuneration

The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at €26 530 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance), six weeks' annual vacation, pension plan and health insurance.
